June Recording of the Month: Linda di Chamounix
Our June Recording of the Month is now available in full on our YouTube channel.
One of the biggest successes of Donizetti’s career, Linda di Chamounix was performed all over the operatic world in the decades following its 1842 Viennese premiere, then fell into neglect. Our live performances of the opera in London marked its first time there since 1887.
American Record Guide said at the time of our recording release: How does Opera Rara do it? First, the choice of repertoire. They manage to find the best in a huge obscure bel canto repertoire. Then they find singers who can adequately perform that repertoire. Then there is the presentation! Just the finest around
Sir Mark Elder conducts the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House with Eglise Gutiérrez, Ludovic Tézier, Elizabeth Sikora, Alessandro Corbelli, Stephen Costello, Marianna Pizzolato, Bálint Szabó and Luciano Botelho.
