Opera Rara is a world-leading, unique and award-winning combination of opera company, recording label and live operatic archaeologist. We search for neglected operatic masterpieces and restore them brilliantly and thrillingly to life for contemporary audiences to enjoy.

2020 will mark Opera Rara’s 50th anniversary. We start this new era of our history from a position of artistic strength. Since 1970, Opera Rara has made over 100 recordings of rare and neglected masterpieces, and nearly half of those have been in brand new performing editions curated and researched by world renowned musicologists.

Our artistic programme into 2020 and beyond includes Donizetti’s Il furioso all’isola di San Domingo, Offenbach’s La Princesse de Trébizonde, Halévy’s Guido et Ginevra, Leoncavallo’s Zingari and the original 1857 version of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. Join us as we look back on Opera Rara’s artistic past and delve into our exciting future.
