Enjoy a first listen to selections of the recording of the first-ever studio recording of Verdi’s original version of his much-loved opera. This will be followed by the pre-release on Opera Rara’s YouTube channel. The original version of Simon Boccanegra, first performed in 1857, is a masterpiece of concision, having many important and compelling differences from the later 1881 version. Fuelled with political intrigue and revenge in medieval Genoa, it‘s a story of familial love and grief, dealing with one of Verdi’s favourite themes: the unbreakable bond between father and daughter.
