Opera Rara and the Hallé announce a cast change in their upcoming recording and performance of the original 1857 version of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. Igor Golovatenko has withdrawn from the production and celebrated Italian baritone, Nicola Alaimo, will sing the title role. Nicola Alaimo, Abbiati Award winner in 2016, made his Opera Rara debut in the title role of Donizetti’s Belisario in 2012. Since then, he has also recorded the role of Murena in Opera Rara’s upcoming release of Donizetti’s L’esule di Roma as well as a disc of songs by the same composer, to be released in September this year. Alaimo performs on the greatest international opera stages including Metropolitan Opera New York, La Scala Milan, Salzburg Festival, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Paris Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro Real Madrid and makes regular guest appearances at the Festival Rossini Pesaro.
