Description

William Matteuzzi is already justly celebrated as one of Italy’s leading bel canto tenors, noted for his Rossini roles. This collection of operatic rarities provides plenty of both Rossini (Le comte Ory, Il viaggio a Reims) and Donizetti (La Fille du Regiment, Il castello di Kenilworth) while taking Matteuzzi into fresh territory with three French arias – from Adam’s Le Postillon de Lonjumeau, Auber’s La Muette di Portici, and Offenbach’s Le pont des Soupirs. These three, plus other pieces from Pacini and Carafa, allow Matteuzzi ample scope to display the unique qualities of his voice; tender, almost venerable and naturally suited to the romantic heroic roles of 19th-century opera.

‘A vivacious programme of rarities’ – John Steane, Gramophone
