July Recording of the Month: Ermione

July 30, 2025

Our July Recording of the Month is Rossini’s Ermione – we think it’s one of the composer’s greatest works but amazingly it only received only one performance at its premiere in 1819. It was never revived in Rossini’s lifetime and it was only until 1987 that it received its first stage revival in Pesaro.

In our Gramophone award-winning studio recording, David Parry conducts London Philharmonic Orchestra with Carmen Giannattasio as Ermione. She is joined by Patricia Bardon as ANdromaca, Paul Nilon as Pirro, Colin Lee as Oreste, Bülent Bezdüz as Pilade, Graeme Broadbent as Fenicio, Rebecca Bottone as Cleone, Victoria Simmonds as Cefisa and Loïc Félix as Attalo.

The opera is part of our essential Opera Rara collections as well as the boxset Rossini in 1819 – find out more here and here.
