Dr. Flora Willson is a Lecturer in Music at King’s College London. Her research focuses on 19th-century music – particularly opera – and its relationship to urban culture, and she is currently finishing an academic book about operatic culture in 1890s London, Paris and New York. She has published widely in academic journals and essay collections and is the co-editor of a special issue of Opera Quarterly on operetta as well as the editor of the critical edition of Donizetti’s Les Martyrs (used in Opera Rara’s award-winning recording conducted by Mark Elder). She also writes about music for The Guardian and Opera magazine, provides programme notes and talks for institutions including BBC Proms, English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Southbank Centre and Royal Opera House, and is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and ROH Live cinema relays.
Dr. Katy Hamilton is one of the UK’s most sought-after speakers on music, providing talks for a host of organisations including the Southbank Centre and BBC Proms. In addition, she regularly writes programme notes for the Salzburg Festival, Wigmore Hall and Philharmonia Orchestra, and is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio 3. Katy has published widely on the music of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and is a keen chamber pianist with an interest in changing performance practices from the 1850s to the 1920s.
